East
Mount Allison University (Sackville, NB), November 19, 2005
On November 19, 2005, the Mount Allison University Delegation hosted the Atlantic Regional Mingler during the annual Atlantic International Studies Organization (ATLIS) conference for eastern Canada. Students from Dalhousie University, Memorial University, l’Université de Moncton, St. Thomas University, Acadia University, and St. Francis Xavier University met and discussed opportunities for strengthening the Network in their region.

Rights and Democracy (Montreal, QC), January 24, 2006
The regional Mingler for Quebec and Ontario was held on January 24, 2006 in Montreal, Network members from the Université de Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) and the Université de Moncton (NB) were in Montreal as part of the Network’s first twinning. The students offered a comparative look at the presidential elections in Burkina Faso and the federal elections in Canada to students from the Delegations of Université Laval (Quebec City), the Montreal region (UQAM, HEC, McGill) and Sherbrooke.

Collège Universitaire de Saint-Boniface (Winnipeg, MB), February 3-4, 2006
The Delegation at the Collège-universitaire de Saint-Boniface hosted the Network’s Western Regional Event on the theme of “La Francophonie, Human Rights and Democracy: Dialogues on Youth Perspectives and Opportunities for Action” in Winnipeg on February 3 & 4, 2006. Network members from francophone communities across Canada came together with representatives from several francophone institutions to discuss opportunities for youth to advance human rights in the Francophonie.

National Gathering
Rights and Democracy (Montreal, QC), March 23-24, 2006
Network members from 33 Rights & Democracy Delegations came together in Montreal on March 23 and 24, 2006 to participate in policy dialogue on Canada’s efforts to promote human rights and democracy, to share their own experiences and ideas about initiatives on their campuses, and to build their relationships in their regions and at the national level. Nine provinces were represented, and a representative from the Network’s first international Delegation at the University of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso was also in attendance. Student participants discussed and debated foreign policy issues with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), as well as Rights & Democracy staff and members of the Board of Directors.
