March 3 and 4, 2007
Glendon College, York University, Toronto (Ontario)
USHIFT: Making Sustainable, Healthy, Innovative and Fair Transitions on University Campuses
Introduction
This year’s Ontario Regional Event will be hosted by the Rights & Democracy Delegation of Glendon College. This event seeks to raise awareness among Delegations of the issues surrounding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and to create a plan for students to implement more ‘conscious’ practices in their own learning environments. The Regional Event will bring together Canadian leaders in CSR from the corporate, humanitarian and banking sectors, to share dialog with students about these important issues. The end goal of this conference is to propose a plan for University Administrators to undertake more sustainable practices on University campuses.
Representatives of the Ontario Universities’ Rights & Democracy Delegations are invited participate in panel discussions and working groups in this innovative and hands-on conference. What are the challenges for corporations? How can consumers make a difference? How can we lobby our universities to adopt policies that are more sustainable? Recognizing the link between corporate activities, the global trade system, and world poverty, Saturday evening’s events will include an Oxfam Hunger Banquet and an Ethical Fashion Show.
