Through the creation of this first issue of the multimedia component of its Magazine, the Network objective is to highlight the importance of culture in various areas such as education, health, environment and economic development. The Network wishes to promote among its constituency a better knowledge and understanding of what are cultural rights. It also aims to encourage the exploration of how culture in itself, its respect, and preservation, impact on the protection and the realization of other human rights, and how it can serve to strengthen democracy. It seeks to further the discussions on the place culture should have in any attempt to work toward sustainable development including the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (1).
