Introduction
As part of Rights & Democracy’s Conference Strengthening Democracy in Asia, to be held in Toronto on June 14-15, 2006, the Rights & Democracy Network is organizing a Student Forum to allow Canadian and Asian university students to discuss the role of youth and student movements in promoting democracy and human rights.
The Student Forum will be an opportunity for a comparative and cross-cultural dialogue about the role of youth in recent democratic transitions; the examples and techniques of effective student activism; and potential partnerships between Canadian and Asian youth for the promotion of human rights and democracy.
The participants in the Student Forum will also participate in the Conference. Through their interaction with the Canadian and Asian experts, their pointed questions in the discussion period and the preparation of a video-montage of their reflections and concerns, the students will help ensure that the Conference conclusions are meaningful and relevant for the future of human rights and democracy in Canada and Asia.
- The cost for student participation in the Student Forum and the Conference is $25. This fee is waived for members of the Rights & Democracy Network
