Human Rights: A Gendered Perspective

In conjunction with the Canadian Studies Department of the university, the Delegation organizes a gender issues conference which explored themes pertaining to gender-sensitive human rights issues, including Aboriginal women’s issues in Canada , reproductive rights and gender and warfare. Based on a simulation style, participants engaged in workshops led by specialists, resulting in policy proposals on the issues discussed.

I Stand for Human Rights Day

The Delegation organizes a day where students wear t-shirts proclaiming their support for human rights, and literally stand up in their classes all day, showing their commitment to human rights. .

Rock for Rights

Benefit concert to educate and inform the public about women in areas of war and conflict, during the Atlantic Regional Network Mingler held during the ATLIS concert. Funds raised are donated to the Urgent Action Fund to help women in conflict areas of West Africa participate in peace building workshops.

The Delegation co-presents the ATLIS conference "Why We Fight: War, Peace, and Resolution", where undergraduate students from all over Atlantic Canada participate in one of the largest undergraduate discussions in the field of International Relations. Students, professors, NGO and government leaders, activists, and experts share their experiences, in an effort to promote the values of human rights and democracy.

During the ATLIS conference, the Delegation hosts the regional event, where students from 6 universities in the Atlantic region meet and discuss about the opportunities for strengthening the Network in their region.

Stand Up For Human Rights - International Women's Day

March 8, 2005
On Tuesday, March 8, 2005, the Delegation held their first annual ‘I Stand for Human Rights Day’ where Mount A students who had previously purchased t-shirts stood all day, during classes and at lunch, in solidarity for international human rights. This is an event which the Delegation hopes to continue and expand next year.
