Federal Elections 2006 - From Burkina Fasoto Canada - Youth Perspective

Observation of federal elections in Canada by Burkinabese and Canadian students (January 2006)

At the invitation of Rights & Democracy, students from Burkina Faso, accompanied by their professor at the University of Ouagadougou, are in Canada to observe different democractic issues related to the 2006 general election. During their visit, from January 15 to 24, 2006, the students, members of the Rights & Democracy Delegation at the University of Ouagadougou, have the opportunity to share their perspectives on the Canadian election context with their peers from the Université de Moncton (N.B.). The Moncton students had the opportunity to visit Burkina Faso as observers during the Burkinese presidential elections in November 2005. They will continue their reflection on the five main themes related to the election, an exercise which is at the heart of democracy:

  1. Electoral systems
  2. Functioning and funding of political parties
  3. Participation and representation of women
  4. Participation of youth
  5. Role of medias
