Moncton-Ouagadougou : A First Successful Twinning

Moncton-Ouagadougou : A First Successful Twinning

Through the implementation of this twinning, I have witnessed the birth of a sustainable partnership which we hope to facilitate between Canadian and international communities in the Rights & Democracy Network.

The magic of the Internet and the virtual exchanges have their limits: the determination to propose activities, resulting from the friendships that developed in Ouagadougou, can only result from the opportunities to explore and to understand together the strengths and weaknesses of democracy, in Canada and elsewhere in the world.

Two elements have guaranteed the success of this project: the participants’ investment; and the way the institutions allied themselves to ensure that ideas turned into reality. This mix of student leadership and the confidence of the Université de Moncton, the Université de Ouagadougou, Rights & Democracy, CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency), the AUCC (Association of Universities and Colleges), and Elections Canada forged the success of this initiative, the continuation of which, in the hands of the students, has already begun…
